Meho Plaza // Mmmmm…

My theory of this morning–music blogs are like recipe blogs. I’m spreading the disease of delicious. I imagine that our addiction to music is like a foodie’s addiction to food, except we may have better cholesterol? I know I do, I don’t consume any cholesterol. Alright, lets not get me started on the metaphors of music blogging. Wait, one more. Jen = queen of everything. YES!!

To the point, to the point. I have orgasm songs. Recently some of my orgasm songs include The Sweet Serenades “Coming Closer” and The Lovely Sparrows “Department of Forseeable Outcomes”. Repeat. Again. Again. Please. My next orgasm song–Meho Plaza’s “I Sold My Organs”. Goodness, how deliciously wriggly and fun to squirm unintelligibly to. And, for your auditory pleasure, they have the whole album up via streams at mehoplaza.muxtape.com.

I couldn’t tell you much more about them except that they are seemingly from L.A., and they’re 3 bits–a girl, and 2 guys. With a sprinkle of awesome. Check it!

We’re not the only ones // Rademacher

Sometimes I get to feeling that Rademacher is my pet project, and it’s nice to see that other folk, like the fine folk at I Guess I’m Floating, are carrying the banner, too. And have been doing it longer, actually. I only heard of them last summer and IGIF & 3Hive have been doing this for a couple of years now. They’re freaking rad, though, and they’re played the freaking Viper Room last night. They’re still mostly playing around Fresno, but you owe it to yourself to buy Stunts so you can be singing along when they come to your town, k? Also, because I like you, I’m supplying a track from their Heart Machine EP, it’s the one most indicative of the sound of the Stunts full length.

SOUTH! New Album, new song // Better Things

I have to admit that sometimes I get so ridiculously upset that I can’t go to Coachella and SXSW that I prefer to ignore all of it. The sheer numbers of bands and such I’d love to catch and can’t makes my stomach upset. South was at SXSW, perfect example.

I’ve been in love with South for a really long time, more specifically, around the time their track ‘Paint the Silence’ (I think) was used for an American Eagle commercial back in the dizzay. So, a good 5 years ago? Not that I like American Eagle. I just happened to be watching TV and this song came on. Then I pulled out my secret weapon and found the song. Sssh.

So, they have a new album coming out. And a new song. Thank goodness for Elbo.ws. Never woulda caught that otherwise. So EXCITING! YAY! I’m more excited about this than I was for the Jack Johnson album, perhaps because Jack Johnson is like a comfy pair of socks and South is like dew, sunshine, and happy, car-driving teen times. For me, anyways.

Here’s some upcoming tour dates:

05/03 - Washington, DC @ Rock And Roll Hotel
05/05 - Chicago, IL @ Abbey Pub
05/06 - Saint Paul, MN @ Turf Club
05/08 - Denver, CO @ Marquis Theater
05/09 - Grand Junction, CO @ Mesa Theater & Club
05/11 - Portland, OR @ Doug Fir Lounge
05/12 - Seattle, WA @ Nectar Lounge
05/14 - San Francisco, CA @ The Independent
05/15 - Los Angeles, CA @ Echo
05/16 - San Diego, CA @ Brick By Brick

Concert Update //Built to Spill & Meat Puppets

A week ago today a bunch of rock legends came to town. Boise-based indie kids Built to Spill and Arizona-native original alt-country/cow-punk drunkards the Meat Puppets. I saw Built to Spill because I was supposed to. I was really there for the Meat Puppets and, even though Cris Kirkwood looks like a zombie muppet, they did not disappoint.

Playing songs from various stages of the band’s career, including all three songs that Nirvana made famous on their Unplugged in New York album (they all come from Meat Puppets II) , the Puppets set was totally worth the price of admission alone. I’m bummed that they didn’t get the chance to play an encore, even though ending the set with “Comin’ Down” and following it up with “Lake of Fire” sure sounded like a closer/encore combo. Beauty, eh?

Built to Spill, well…I only know two songs, and they played one of them, but it was pretty early in the set. It was good music, but I was tired (clubs that make their money on booze do better to let shows run later. I hate it). And though they have a lot of pretty catchy numbers, that’s not really what they’re about these days, and the loyal BtS fans don’t wanna hear that noise anyhow.

So I enjoyed Built to Spill’s jammy bits and went on my way determined to buy the Meat Puppets’ Too High To Die, and album I had taped years back, but wanted on CD. Especially since the song I needed to share with you wasn’t on Dave’s computer or hanging out elsewhere on Internet. So, I present to you “Comin’ Down/Lake of Fire”!! “Lake of Fire,” as I mentioned, was originally released on 1984’s Meat Puppets II, but they re-recorded it in ‘93 as a secret track on Too High to Die. Also, enjoy the Built to Spill song that I know and they played. It’s “Distopian Dream Girl” from ’94’s There’s Nothing Wrong with Love. Good rockin’ times!!

Oh yeah, Built to Spill is gonna be at Langerado, too!
