Joseph Arthur and Vagabond Skies

I got sent this little baby a while ago, and its been sitting on my desktop collecting dust ever since. I popped it open today, I visualize like a can of beer, and it was still good. Dust didn’t bother it all. Yay music.

Check it out, Joseph Arthur is an artist who can’t decide what to do, paint or make music, or maybe he does both well. And at the same time, I hear. I like this song for the special wah and because its simple and his voice is enjoyable. Oh, and he’s from Ohio. If thats weird, sorry.

Strange Fruit - Billie Holliday

Summer A is freaking done. I don’t know what to do with myself, except post, since I haven’t in like 2 weeks. And because I’m sick and twisted, I’m posting something from school.

Wait, wait! Don’t run away! It’s not bad. Ever heard the song Strange Fruit? Well, I hadn’t until this semester when my history teacher, with an obvious love of blues, posted the lyrics to it in the course packet. So I checked out the song. Creepy. Why did my history teacher bring it up? Because its about lynching the blacks in the late 1800’s. Pretty fucked up. People used to dress up in the Sunday best and smile in pictures next to the dead bodies. How horrible.

Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.

Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.

Review : Mason Jennings - In the Ever

I should start off by saying that I don’t know much about Mason Jennings. Anymore than you know about any artist. I know he plays guitar and is on Brushfire Records. Thats it. Oh, and I freaking love his album, In the Ever. Like, a lot. It’s chill, folky, instrumentally pleasing and hasn’t burned my ears out yet.

Your New Man is cute and funny, so thats below, and the rest of the songs on the album provide a nice variety of thoughts and lyrics. I like how Jennings brings in Jesus and God but without me feeling like someone doused me with holy water. You know?

Music Festival Guide for the Roo and other such festivals

Don’t lie. You bitches need a festival guide.

Ok, that was aggressive. I’m having a ‘client’ come over in about 15 minutes and my house is a mess, and what am I doing? Giving you advice, not cleaning.

Bonnaroo is next week. No, I’m not going. The only way I was going to be able to go is if God farted 50 gallons of gasoline out of the sky. I just can’t afford any of it. About 400 dollars for tickets for two, plus travel, and food. Even free tix wouldn’t have cut it. So I will mope. And jealously read all about it. (I am a little excited about staying here and showered, though….sssh).

Anyways, I wrote this festival guide before Langerado this year. Nothing really change at Langerado, as far as my advice and experience, so no updating is necessary. Well, be prepared for all weather. My only thing I was missing at L-Ado was a sweater and an extra pair of shoes. It got balls cold, so we were both cold. Didn’t see it coming. Bonnaroo gets COLD AS SHIT at night, so bring a sweater and sweatpants, for real. 7 am rolls around and the sun is spanking you, which sucks, but be prepared for the cold. Please. It sucks.

Music Festival Guide 2008, from le Duchess

P.S. Love you guys. Love your people around you. Help people out. Stay safe, and don’t buy shrooms from a big guy with a beard. Dark hair. Shifty looking, if you have a radar like mine. Seriously. Avoid him.

Enjoy this fitting song:

Meho Plaza // Mmmmm…

My theory of this morning–music blogs are like recipe blogs. I’m spreading the disease of delicious. I imagine that our addiction to music is like a foodie’s addiction to food, except we may have better cholesterol? I know I do, I don’t consume any cholesterol. Alright, lets not get me started on the metaphors of music blogging. Wait, one more. Jen = queen of everything. YES!!

To the point, to the point. I have orgasm songs. Recently some of my orgasm songs include The Sweet Serenades “Coming Closer” and The Lovely Sparrows “Department of Forseeable Outcomes”. Repeat. Again. Again. Please. My next orgasm song–Meho Plaza’s “I Sold My Organs”. Goodness, how deliciously wriggly and fun to squirm unintelligibly to. And, for your auditory pleasure, they have the whole album up via streams at mehoplaza.muxtape.com.

I couldn’t tell you much more about them except that they are seemingly from L.A., and they’re 3 bits–a girl, and 2 guys. With a sprinkle of awesome. Check it!
