Skinny Love - Bon Iver // The Song that Eluded Me

You know, I’ve heard this on Left of Center like FIVE times in the past week, which is a lot because they play a wider variety of indie rock. Some fellow bloggers have shows on there, like Gorilla vs. Bear, An Aquarium Drunkard, My Old Kentucky Blog, Product Shop NYC, It’s a Trap, and Brooklyn Vegan. Not only is it really cool to listen to these shows, but it makes me want one too.

So when I found out who it was last night, I was all like, “OOhhhhhhh….THAT guy!” Because as much as I try, there are lots of bands out there that people talk about out and ooh and aah and I either have little faith they are any good (often times I’m right) or I just never get round to hearing them. Anyways, this song always came on when it was perfect to drive. Dusk, on the interstate, when I’m moodily thinking of something like moving to France or taking 6 months homeless in the West Indies.

Oh yeah, I saw Gogol Bordello @ State Theatre 6-16-08

How did I almost forget that one? On Monday I went to the State Theater in St. Pete and saw Gogol and the crew. Or maybe they ARE the crew…dunno. A lot of the time there was 9 people on stage in a theater was meant for punk music and moshing. My friend Jason’s first show at that venue, back in the day, was Bouncing Souls.

Gogol put on a great show, for sure. We almost didn’t get in, because they ran out of tickets, and then were accepting cash for no ticket, so I had to run across the street in a halter top that was not meant for boobies jiggling. I had a line of punkrockers/retro/50’s dressed people looking at me. Anyways, found an ATM. Got in. Sweet. The beer was pretty cheap, too, only 3 bucks for a Miller Lite. They took their sweet ass time coming on though. 45 minutes between the openers and Gogol. My buzz was gone.

Do I have the setlist? Hell no. No idea what they played. I can tell you that I WORE PURPLE, and I got that whole song on video….not on my camera. They played Alcohol, returning from their break as an encore. And, my friends decided to go out back and try meet them, and they did! Me and the boyfriend hit the road. I’m not much for trying to meet bands and such, I never know what to say…”Hey man, ….how’s….work?”

Cool, eh? Lots of sweat, wine, and people on stage. Kickin’ show. can’t wait to see them again.

Feed the Animals, but no GMO’s

I love my hippie humor. Arf. So Girl Talk’s got some new Schtuff out. You can download it here, for free, or you can pay for it like you should. I didn’t pay for it, because I have no gas in my car due to some unfortunate circumstances and one of the jollies of bringing you guys mp3s is that I can call myself part of the music/media industry (cough*BS*cough). Well, I do.

If you don’t feel like going through all that, pleasure yourself with these nice mp3s. :D

Joseph Arthur and Vagabond Skies

I got sent this little baby a while ago, and its been sitting on my desktop collecting dust ever since. I popped it open today, I visualize like a can of beer, and it was still good. Dust didn’t bother it all. Yay music.

Check it out, Joseph Arthur is an artist who can’t decide what to do, paint or make music, or maybe he does both well. And at the same time, I hear. I like this song for the special wah and because its simple and his voice is enjoyable. Oh, and he’s from Ohio. If thats weird, sorry.
