In honor of Earth Day (even though I’m running late), I’ve decided to post some environmentally/earthly-minded songs. I’ve got a whole host of them.
Anyways, I think that if there was ever a time for you to get your green on, now is the time. 2008 is the year to do it. I saw a shirt today in Walmart that said simply, with no graphics, “THE HIPPIES WERE RIGHT”. And I happened to pick up two shirts that said “Save the Humans” with cute whales on them.
Keep it simple. Don’t go out and try and solar power your home.
- Buy energy efficient light bulbs when your old ones go out. They look like spirals.
- Try and find some canvas bags to carry groceries in. This typically only works for single people and couples, because coming from a family of 7 I understand how many groceries come home, and how many bags it would take. But try anyway.
- Turn the lights off at night. No one cares that you’re scared of the dark. Turn ‘em off, you chickenshit.
- If you have land, compost your waste. Its free shit to plant stuff in. And it’s awesome for plants.
- If you have to use plastic bags, recycle them. Use them again for trash, or whatever.
- Plant something.
- Go outside and breath for like ten minutes. It’s awesome. Like getting high.
- Pick a flower and stick it in your hair.
Alright, I know some of these don’t seem to directly affect the environment, but at least you’ll become more aware of it, and NONE of this shit is hard. I’m a vegan. THAT’S hard. So quit whining.
Happy Earth Day, enjoy the jams.
P.S. If you particularly enjoy hippie jams about the environment, activism, and other such ‘hippie’ stuff, check out John Butler Trio. Rocks my socks.
