It’s official!! I have a favourite local band, and they are the Brobecks. I had seen them briefly in August when I wandered past a show at Gallivan Plaza, and they had made an impression then (mostly for the bizarre zombie dancing that their fans were doing as I sat smugly at a table). I caught the whole set this time and it’s confirmed: I love the Brobecks, and I think ya’ll should, too.
With a new record just finished and “2nd Boys Will Be First Choice” getting hell of airplay on X96, now’s your big chance to get in on this noise. The somewhat turbulent band line-up seems to have settled on three: Dallon Weekes (vox, bass, keys), Matt Seppi (guitars, keys), and Drew Davidson (drums). The sound is sure to please high school kids who don’t know much better, but they are far from throwaway ear candy. They can be as boppy as the Libertines, emotive as Bright Eyes (well, as emotive, that’s just hyperbolic), and as macabre as your favourite Tim Burton film, sometimes all at once. I was impressed that four+ months later I still recognized the songs they’d played as I was passing through.
I’ve been listening to their new EP a lot, and I’m seriously pumped for this new record. Listen to these two songs from it, then go see them at the SLAMMys Showcase tonight at the Depot. They take stage at 11:30. DO IT!!

They ARE amazing. I saw them at Velour over the weekend and it was awesome as always.

I really wish I could be happy about this band’s success, but after a few run-ins with Dallon, I can’t be. The guy is an egomaniacal douchebag.

you’re right about that, trent. the worst part is, he pretends to be humble as shit, constantly talkng about his “little” band and what not. additionally, the dude’s shat on dozens of people to get as far as he has. money is the bottom line and only motivation.

Here is a true story about Dallon. I made some cupcakes for the band once, years ago. I spent a lot of time on them, i wrote the band name on them and everything and brought them to a show at kilby court. A few months later i found out that the other members of the band threw them in the garbage without even trying them. Not that they had to, but anyway, Dallon was the only one who tried them, he even took pictures and put them online and wrote me a thank you note. Since then I’ve ran into him several times. He ALWAYS bends over backwards to make fans happy. He never has one bad word to say about ANYBODY, even when he has every right to. Ex-band members stealing from him and selling his music online for a YEAR and he never says a word about it. He sacrifices time with his family and works his ass off to be where he is. and last i heard The Brobecks weren’t being paid for it yet. The honest truth is that ive never met a more humble musician in my life. People like you that do nothing but talk shit make this world a worse place.

I agree with angie! Dallon is one of the coolest people from any band that i’ve met! The band is way tight! i don’t know who you think you guys are by saying all that he is a douchebag. guess what?! your a douchebag!!! and you couldn’t write anything close to what the Brobecks have! And The Brobecks also rocked the house at the big ass show!
