If you remember, I went to see Rademacher back in July and told you I’d be reviewing their new album Stunts soon, but closer to the release date. Well, the release date is now close enough that you can preorder the album, I’ll tell you a few reasons why you should.
It’s hard to know where to start, really. From the start of “Arkansas” Stunts is an eloquent presentations of indie boppiness and sincerity, but without being syrupy sweet. “Arkansas” also features that catchy shout-along chorus that I spoke of at the show, one where Bhecky would shout, though not mic’d. The whole album is quite delightful, quirky lyrics and happy times. You would not be unfounded to say you hear bits of Modest Mouse or McLusky or The Talking Heads, and I’ve had someone else confirm that sometimes Malcolm’s vocals are reminiscent of Bob Dylan. But in a good way, y’know, not like he gargles a glass of glass dust every morning. I really enjoy this band, and this album turned out excellently. It’s really for your benfit to check it out.
And I’m not just saying that because they are awesome and let me go to pizza with them.
You can hear “If U Got Some Magic” and “Arkansas” on their Myspace page, I’ll provide you with the title track, “Stunts.” It’s the acoustic-est song on the album, and goes really well with the closer “Letter from Fresno, CA,” but you’ll have to get the album to hear them next to each other. And you really, really should.
It is good times!
