I did it : Bonnaroo 2007

Well, I'm back from Bonnaroo.

Yep. I went, I came back. Nothing disasterous happened while there, and my posse and I feel very fortunate in that. We did run over a tree on the way up though, but thats another story for later on after I do the post-Bonnaroo crash.

Summer Jams Part II : 311

Once again, going with the obvious band for the summer jam spotlight, but I'll be steering clear of the obvious tunes.  Even as I speak 311's cover of the Cure's "Lovesong" is on the radio.  So I thought I'd hook you up with a few lesser known tunes.  When I say "lesser known" I'm not talking to 311 fans, I'm not hardcore enough to have stuff they don't know, but it's stuff you don't come across every day.  It's great pool-side jammin'.  "Stealing Happy Hours" is the closer and my favourite track on Transistor [which is also my favourite 311 album], "Purpose" is one of the mellower tracks from their self-titled album, and "Summer of Love" goes all the way back to Omaha Sessions.  As a bonus, because I like you, I'm throwing in the song I always thought of as "Amber"s little brother, it's called "Champagne" and I like it a little bit more than its more popular cousin.
Keep it jammin'.

LovetheMusic News - June 12th, 2007

Hullo all,

Couple of things to get out of the way.

1. Downloaded the beta PC version of Safari, and I'm happy to say that the site looks and functions well in it. Always good stuff there, browser-compatibility and the like.

2. I'm leaving for Bonnaroo tomorrow. I'm going to post a couple more times today, and then new material will be back in action after I get back, crash for about 16 hours, and find where I left my head. Expect lots of pictures.

Damon can be reached at damon [at] lovethemusicreviews [dot] com. He'll take care of you while I'm gone, which will be about 6 days.

I'll be checking email until tomorrow morning, and that's it. I'm not going to Bonnaroo to get on the computer in an internet cafe, I'm going to check out the music, and not work.

Wish me the best o' the luck. Have the fun.

Love yourself,

Jen

Reconsidered : Silversun Pickups - Carnavas

So I've decided that I greatly misjudged the SSPU album and I'm here to let you all know of my second thoughts.  After hearing "Lazy Eye" on the radio a few times, and enjoying it quite a bit, I decided to give Carnavas another spin.  Funny thing is that it was amazing.  What once sounded flat and uninspired was now catchy and full of life.  "Well Thought Out Twinkles" and "Common Reactor" were catchy; "Future Foe Scenarios" had an intensity that I'd missed the first time.  The songs started to seem like actual songs instead of a sheer rock face of impenetrable noises.  I don't know what changed, but I really like the album now.  I hope I didn't ruin it for anybody.
Enjoy sounds!

MP3 Spotlight : Young Folks - Peter Bjorn and John

I’ve noticed that I watch a lot of late shows. NBC, really. And “Young Folks” by Peter Bjorn and John with Victoria Bergsman was performed on a rerun of Carson Daly’s late show (don’t worry, I’m not a wild fan, he’s not standup material) and I think Conan or Jay the other night. So, I take this as another sign. That and I really like the song, so I’m going to share. Its been running around the mp3 blog circuit a lot, too.

It’s delicious. No history here, just a good song, and I admit I have not heard anything by PBJ before, so this could be the beginning of a good music-and-me relationship.

P.S. Soon we’ll have the remix done by Kanye West. Oooh!

MP3 Spotlight : Blue Stone - Worlds Apart (Searching For You)

Seems like we're having our own little mashup madness here at LTM this week. Paths of Possession and Blue Stone are two artists that are somewhat local, and referred to me by friends. Blue Stone was discovered my esthetician-friend, who was on the hunt for music to play during her sessions with clients. She found Blue Stone on Amazon, decided to splurge and buy the album, and fell in love with it and referred me to it, knowing I appreciate ambient stuff.

Blue Stone is a band signed by Neurodisc Records, who are based out of Fort Lauderdale, with a focus on techno, new age, world beat, trance, and drum and bass.

The track "Worlds Apart" is relaxing, moving, and beautiful, all at the same time. Don't think Enya with a heavier beat, think Portishead-like vocals, with a great mesh of blippy take-me-away sounds. Yeah, dig that description.

This is probably one of my favorite tracks of the album, as well as being the name of album itself. If you're into more ambient, trancey stuff, definitely check this album out. I love listening to it while working, it helps me meditate to what I'm doing, especially if I'm trying to give myself a break and do nothing, and relax.
